This concept is often used to refer to the variety of human societies or cultures in a specific region or around the world. It represents the inclusion of different cultural perspectives in an organization or society, and it encompasses respect for each culture's differences​.

Este conceito é frequentemente utilizado para se referir à variedade de sociedades humanas ou culturas em uma região específica ou ao redor do mundo. Cultural diversity can take several forms, including a balance to be achieved through the promotion of actions in favor of cultural minorities, preservation of endangered cultural minorities, cultural protection against commercialization, and the incorporation of cultural rights into a layer of human rights. Notably, the concept of "culture" in this context is not limited to cultural heritage or established practices, but it also includes lifestyles, value systems, traditions, and beliefs​.

However, it's important to note that measuring cultural diversity is challenging, with one common method being the count of languages spoken in a region or worldwide. Unfortunately, by this measure, global cultural diversity is rapidly declining​​.

It also sparks innovation through varied perspectives, enhances productivity with diverse working styles, opens doors to new opportunities with the blending of ideas, and improves problem-solving with a richness of opinions​.

Além disso, a diversidade cultural traz muitos benefícios para a sociedade como um todo. Ela promove a compaixão por meio da comunicação e da compreensão das diferenças. Individuals and institutions can support cultural diversity in several ways, including interacting with people outside of their own culture, being open-minded, speaking out against cultural insensitivity, accepting differences as beneficial, advocating for diversity in hiring practices, and learning about different cultures through travel, literature, and media​.
